Apply for the Vissing Foundation through Kitchen, Aarhus University

The Vissing Foundation provides development support for startups working on new technologies and solutions within green energy and climate. The overall goal: to make society less dependent on fossil fuels.

Through a partnership with Aarhus University (Kitchen), the University of Copenhagen (Lighthouse), and the Technical University of Denmark (DTU Skylab), startups can access the foundation’s funding programmes.


About The Vissing Foundation

Who can apply?

The Vissing Foundation supports Danish startups transitioning from idea or concept to testing and real-world implementation. Funding is primarily aimed at activities that help develop, test, and commercialise new technologies.

In order to apply for the Vissing Foundation through Kitchen, KU Lighthouse or DTU Skylab, it’s a requirement that you have an active affiliation with one of the universities, as either an employee, researcher or as a student.

What types of projects does the Vissing Foundation support?

  • Startups and spinouts working with alternative and/or renewable energy sources, ultimately helping society become less dependent on fossil fuels.
  • Every stage of the process: from development to supply, storage, and reduction (e.g. CO₂) in both products and systems.
  • Not only projects specifically focused on energy and climate, but also smart technological solutions that help reduce fossil fuel dependence and, in doing so, indirectly address society’s major challenges in these fields.

Examples of projects

  • Integrated solutions for managing energy, climate, environment, and biodiversity.
  • Digital tools for optimizing energy use in production, transport, and construction.
  • New forms of energy production such as biofuels, PtX, or CO₂ capture.
  • Energy storage in batteries and other systems.
  • Efficiency improvements in energy use for businesses and households.

What formal requirements does the Vissing Foundation have for applicants?

To receive funding, your company must:

  • Be based in Denmark.
  • Have a CVR number (company registration number).
  • Have a Danish bank account.

What does the Vissing Foundation not support?

  • Salaries for founders/owners (though funding may be granted for third-party contributions such as app development, technical testing, engineering support or lab work).
  • Travel expenses (except travel expenses related to commercialisation, which may be covered).
  • Course or conference fees.
  • Study trips.
  • Publication costs.
  • Administrative expenses.

The application is relatively short but should be quite precise regarding your proposed budget activities.

When can you apply?

There are four annual deadlines:

  • 28 February
  • 31 May
  • 31 August
  • 15 November

When do you receive a response to your application?

The expected response time is within 30 days. In special cases, it may take up to two months. You will receive a reply directly from the Vissing Foundation.

How much money can you apply for?

Individual grants range from DKK 200,000 to 300,000.

How will I be notified if my application is rejected?

Please note: The foundation does not issue rejection letters. If you do not hear back, your application should be considered declined.
