What is a spinout?

A Spinout is a company established based on agreements with the institution (Aarhus University or Central Denmark Region) regarding the transfer of technologies and rights (ownership or licensing rights).

A Spinout can also be established based on agreements with a specific inventor to independently exploit a right in exchange for compensation to the institution.

When establishing a spinout, you can either use one of the universities' new standard licensing models or AU's own flexible agreements if none of the standard models meet your needs.

Meet three successful spinouts from Aarhus University

Visblue Visblue was founded in 2015 to commercialise sustainable energy storage with a patented vanadium redox flow battery. The company is based on an invention made at the Department of Engineering.

Radisurf The company's goal is to develop solutions for bonding different types of materials together - for example, plastic and metal, materials that have otherwise proven difficult to bond with existing products. The company was sold in the summer of 2021 for 100+ million DKK.

VPCIR Biosciences The company's primary product is an inexpensive and rapid method for tracking pathogens. A patent application has been filed for the underlying technology. The company is a spinout from Aarhus University and The Chinese University of Hong Kong.
